The 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup will be staged in Denmark. Denmark – together with 2 more countries – has just been awarded a 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup event by the International Canoe Federation at the ICF board of directors meeting in Glasgow this weekend. The strong bidders were Belgrade (SER), Poznan (POL), Moscow (RUS), Copenhagen (DEN), Duisburg (GER) and Brandenburg (GER).
Hosting the 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup gives Denmark the opportunity to make another event, which is right on target with the objectives of the ICF. The organizers are confident that they can showcase an event with a high sustainability profile, a safe and simple setting for the ICF and the participants, and it will all be handled by experienced event partners.
“Together with Sport Event Denmark and the City of Gladsaxe we will make the 2015 Canoe Sprint World Cup a celebration of our sport, mixing top level sport performance with spectator friendly surroundings and services. We will continue the work for an ISO (International Oganization for Standardization) certification based on the experiences from the 2012 Marathon World Cup and the 2013 Marathon World Championships,” says Ole Tikjøb, president of the Danish Canoe Federation.
“Denmark has developed knowledge and experience in hosting international sports events. Hosting great sports events in Denmark is part of a fully funded government strategy including other spectacular events such as the 2009 IOC Session & Olympic Congress, the 2011 UCI Road World Championships and the 2011 UEFA Under 21 Football Championships, to mention a few,” says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark.
“We are convinced that the City of Gladsaxe in collaboration with the Danish Canoe Federation, the local clubs and Sport Event Denmark can organize a successful 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Denmark,” says Karin Søjberg Holst, Mayor of the City of Gladsaxe.
