One Year to go to the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships in Denmark

Fast, flat and scenic! In exactly one year the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships will take place in wonderful Copenhagen in Denmark. For the first time ever recreational runners will join the elite in a world half marathon and therefore it is a must attend event in your race calendar.

The IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships on the 29th of March 2014 is a once in a lifetime experience for runners of all kind. In only 2 days all the places reserved for the Danish market got sold out. BUT another 5,000 places are being held for the International participants.

The slogan of the event is: We can be heroes … and thus creating images of 300 elite runners with a tail of 25,000 recreational runners on the same closed off and epic course in a gigantic running festival.

The elite women and men will lead the race but the ambitious recreational runners – will be right behind them when the starter pistol goes off.

At the same time TV helicopters will be hovering over Christiansborg Castle, start and finish area, to cover the International Championships live from Copenhagen. The world will have their eyes on the participants as they run 21.0975 kilometers through the heart of Copenhagen.

Denmark, friends and families are invited to come and cheer along! Hot spots like never before, spectator guides and entertainment programs will be tailored for this very special day.

“The course is fast, flat and scenic. I assure you – this course is the perfect setting for making personal bests,” says Wilson Kipketer, former 3 x world champion and world record holder (800m) and the official ambassador of the event. As a matter of fact he will join the gigantic mass participation race himself.

He adds:

“Denmark is also a running nation. The mass participation race sold out in a few hours and thus tells the story. The Danish Athletic Federation, Sport Event Denmark and Copenhagen look forward to welcoming the world of running to Denmark in 2014.”

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and easy to get to as it performs the hup of Scandinavia. The city has been awarded Sports City 2012 for mid-sized cities and has a long tradition for sports events in the heart of the capital.

More than 300 elite runners from around 50 nations are expected to participate in Copenhagen in 2014. In addition 25,000 recreational runners from Denmark and abroad will contribute to the running festivities in the mass participation race.
