Passion and professionalism

With a spectacular Opening yesterday in Herning at the Men’s EHF European Championship 2014 it was clear that the next two weeks in the four host cities Herning, Aarhus, Aalborg and Copenhagen would be full of passion: In matches, back stage, within the volunteers, on spectator seats and on TV.

The African-Danish singer Nabiha concluded the Opening with the official EHF Euro song ‘Bang that Drum’ and the heart beat pounded within the Hearts of Handball in Denmark. Both His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark who is the patron of the event the Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt and the Minister for Culture and Sport, Marianne Jelved were attending the opening and watched the match between Denmark and Macedonia which Denmark won 29-21.

“For me, personally, Denmark hosting the EHF EURO 2014 is a dream coming true,” Secretary General of the Danish Handball Association, Morten Stig Christensen, said at the press conference and continued: “When this is all over, the money we make from the EHF EURO 2014 will go to the development of handball in Danish clubs. (…) From my heart of handball I give thanks to all the volunteers in the Danish clubs around the country. They helped making this possible.”

“Denmark has a strong tradition for staging handball events. The EURO2014 is a chance of – once again – demonstrating Denmark’s strong handball culture and how much we can add to the international handball community by staging the event professionally with passion in the four host cities,” says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark that partners the event.

In Herning and Aalborg the four first matches were played yesterday in front of enthusiastic spectator crowds – in Herning alone 14,000. Today matches in Aarhus and Copenhagen follow.

Thus the EHF EURO 2014 has kicked off with the passion for handball that is a profound element in Danish Culture and with the professionalism the organizer Danish Handball Association together with the four host cities and Sport Event Denmark stand for.

The European Handball Federation, EHF, has launched an app that makes it easy to stay tuned with the event with schedule, results, news, photos, videos and a fan wall. The app is compatible with android and iphone. Seach for EHF EURO 2014.
