IAAF AL Bank World Half Marathon 2014 short listed

IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 and Copenhagen has made it to the finals in no less than four categories of this year’s European Sport Tourism Awards. The winners will be announced on May 14.

“It is recognition of the Danish sport event management that the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 that was staged in Copenhagen, Denmark, has been short listed for the European Sport Tourism Awards,” says Jakob Larsen, CEO, Danish Athletic Federation. The national federation, Sport Event Denmark and Copenhagen hosted the event successfully and now the event is awarded prizes nationally and internationally.

The IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 has been short listed in the following categories:

European Sport Tourism City

Sport Tourism Digital Marketing Award

European Sport Tourism Innovation Award and

European Sport Tourism Event of the Year

The World of Running, Denmark and the Danes were the big winners at IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 which was staged in perfect weather in Copenhagen. A World Championship like never before. Four men sub the magic hour! An event sup the magic moment. Never before has a World Half Marathon been staged alongside a gigantic mass participation race of 30,000 runners from Denmark and abroad. And never before had so many national and international media covered the half marathon.

We can be heroes! That was the slogan of the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 and thus referred to the objectives of the event: Participants should get a once in a lifetime “running with the stars” experience and the elite runners should experience the massive attention on their race and on running in general in the festive celebration of the sport.

The event has already recieved the IAAF Label ’Athletics for A Better World’ and several Danish prizes for best sporting event of the year.

The IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships 2014 not only runs for prizes but leaves also a legacy – An annual half marathon with IAAF label in the heart of Copenhagen from 2015: Copenhagen Half

The winners of the European Sport Tourism Awards will be announced on the evening of Thursday 14th May at an awards event hosted in King Johns Castle at 7.00pm.
