H.R.M. the Crown Prince visited today the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup on Bagsvaerd Lake. During the three-hour-long visit the Crown Prince attended two World Cup finals where René Holten Poulsen won silver in the 1000 meter race while Henriette Engel Hansen and Emma Jørgensen took the bronze medals in the women’s K2 500 meters race. Thus, it was a happy Crown Prince presenting medals after each race with Danish athletes on the podium.
-We are very happy and proud that the Crown Prince shows so much interest in us for the second time. The last time was in 2013 when we arranged the ICF Canoe marathon World Championships. Like the last time, the Crown Prince posed many good questions. He said himself that he enjoyed being here and greeting our skillful athletes, says Ole Tikjøb, the Chairman of Danish Canoe Federation.
Thus, he is happy about the important attention the visit has caused around the canoe sport and the great joined efforts the Danish Canoe Federation Sport Event Denmark, the municipalities of Gladsaxe and Lyngby-Taarbæk and Sport Event Denmark have put into arranging an event for attendants and international athletes from 35 countries and their helpers.
After a trip on the lake, the Crown Prince paid a visit in the test center #trainlikeachamp run by physical education students from Aalborg University in cooperation with a physiologist from Team Denmark, Jarl Pors Jacobsen. In the test center, everybody can come ad be tested in the same way as an elite athlete is tested in Team Denmark.
At the time of the visit at the test center, a young paddler, Frederikke Maretti, was being tested. After the test, the Crown Prince padded her on her shoulder saying “well done”. The Crown Prince ended his visit answering questions from the press.
