Due to the coronavirus pandemic the European Championships are to be postponed to the 14-17 of April 2021. The decision has been made after talks between the Danish Gymnastics Federation (GymDanmark), European Gymnastics, Sport Event Denmark and Ballerup Municipality, which has led to the conclusion that the current Covid-19 situation remains too unclear to go ahead with the initial dates in October.
Furthermore, training facilities across Europe have been closed and many gymnasts are still looking into a period with no possibilities of proper training, which is essential to perform at the highest level needed at the forthcoming championships.
Lastly, the health and safety of participants, volunteers, spectators and all others involved in an event of this size, is the top priority. Therefore, the decision might be difficult but nonetheless necessary.
Still the biggest TeamGym event ever
The ambition remains that this European Championships, now from 14-17 April 2021, will be the biggest TeamGym event ever and still to be held in Ballerup Super Arena close to Copenhagen. Also, the goal is still that this will be an open championship with participating countries from outside of Europe. This is part of ongoing strategic efforts to expand the sport internationally.
