In exactly one year, for the first time in the history of canoes and kayaks, it will be possible to win both the Olympics and the World Championships in the same year when the World Championships take place in Denmark. In half a year, the Danish Canoe and Kayak Association’s 100th-anniversary celebration begins.
The 2021 ICF Canoe Sprint and Para Canoe World Championships will take place a few weeks after the postponed Olympic Game, it will be an historic opportunity to win medals at the Olympics and the World Championships in the same year. The year 2021 also marks the historic 100th anniversary of the Danish Canoe Federation. The World Championships will be the peak of the anniversary celebration.
President of the Danish Canoe Federation, Tom Faurschou says: “We’re very excited to be hosting the ICF Canoe Sprint and Para Canoe World Championships in 2021. This gives us an amazing opportunity to celebrate our 100th anniversary and to promote the sport within Denmark as well as Denmark within the world of international canoe. The event embraces the Danish elite from our past, to our present, and into the future.”
The preparations are well underway, the main lines have been laid out and the work on the many 100 details has begun. The financial event partners are looking forward to the remaining part of the planning, and not least the event’s hosting.
“Covid-19 has changed the event scene dramatically, including the fact that the UEFA EURO 2020 has been rescheduled to 2021. The ICF Canoe Sprint and Para Canoe World Championships have only changed the date by a few weeks and will be one of the year’s absolute highlights. We are looking forward to great sporting experiences once again in Denmark,” says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event, Denmark.
